Enjoyed our visit.

I took my grandchildren age 8 and 5. We loved the Apprentice house and the Tiger who came to tea exhibition

In the days when children were taken from the workhouse and sent to the mills, this was one of the better ones to be indentured at. The mistress was abolishionist, the master was a slave owner. Between them they ran the place with medicine, good food and one holiday a week. That holiday was spent walking a good 10 miles to church three times on a Sunday, but it was a day off from the cloying cotton filled rooms and hard work in the mills. In this house the children lived, some 60 girls and 10 boys, along with their caretakers. We learned about their schooling, where they slept, and what a day in their life would have been like at 'home'.Fascinating and well worth a visit if in the area.

Timed ticket access only, (pick up from box near entry) but worth it for the knowledgeable talk from the guide.

When going to Quarry Bank Mill make sure that you visit the Apprentice House. Tickets for the Apprentice House are free as part of your entry to this NT property but are required to ensure your time slot as numbers are limited. Tickets can be picked up at the rear of the reception building. The Apprentice House is only 1/2 hour but is very informative and gives a great perspective on how life must have been 200 years ago for the 9-18 year olds owned by the mill.
