What a waste of everybodies time...not a happy bunny :(:(:(:(
I've recently joined Handforth Health Centre. I really don't like going to the doctor's (I find it worse than going to the dentist!), so I was loathe to make an appointment. Things had gotten so bad with an ongoing health issue that I was sort of forced to book one really. The receptionists both as regards booking the appointment and joining the surgery were really friendly, polite, and helpful. I was able to get an appointment for the next day due to a cancellation, and when I arrived for the appointment the GP was only running ten minutes late. I was really pleased with the way things were going. Unfortunately everything fell apart when I went in to see the GP. When I entered the room she didn't speak, so I said 'hello'. She sort of grunted at me. I then sat myself down and she still didn't speak, so I began speaking (I probably didn't make much sense either as I was babbling a bit due to her weird staring and silence making me feel so anxious). She then started speaking over the top of me and rushing through everything as quickly as possible. Every time I tried to interject with something she spoke over the top of me. There was no 'bedside manner', no compassion, no smiling, no... anything. She just wanted to get everything done and dusted quickly, so much so that I didn't feel I could talk to her about a serious mental health problem that I've been experiencing (a mental health problem that is partly the result of feeling so poorly because of my physical symptoms). I am absolutely at rock bottom and she made me feel like a nuisance and a drain on her time, so I didn't bring it up. I'm posting this on here in the hope that they'll see this and maybe think about how people might be feeling when they come in. How a simple smile, a 'hello'/'take a seat'/'what can I help you with?' and giving the impression that they're listening when the person speaks can make someone feel valued and less alone. It really can make all the difference. I completely understand the pressure on GPs and the time constraints they're under, but I was in and out of there in under five minutes and I wasn't asking for any medication or anything even vaguely complicated or demanding - just a simple referral for a problem that's already documented on my medical file.
If you want a doctors that shout all your personal sensitive information and loose blood tests. And just hand out meds with no other way to help then go for it. Absolutely a joke of a doctors should be shut down. Nosey reception staff and big mouthed.
We would like to thank all the staff at Handforth health centre for going that bit further to help. We always get an appointment when needed. The reception staff are always curtious and helpful. A big shout out for Wendy and Dr.Kapoor who help make looking after my family that much easier when I'm always so stressed. Many Thanks. A well deserved 5*.
Quick to get an appointment in an emergency but however I find it unprofessional when Dr Shipston tells a patient that she doesnt believe a patient when they are telling her about personally sensitive metal health symptoms... The GMC and press will be hearing about this...
